Great Local Food & Drink

In and around Cardigan we love nothing more than extending a warm welcome to our guests, and with it, serving up some great local food and drink. we are fortunate enough to have a wealth of fantastic local produce suppliers on our doorstep, as well as lots of lovely independent places to eat, meaning your meal is always freshly prepared with the best, fresh ingredients.

Here are just a few of our personal favourites that we recommend, however, this is not an extensive list. Be sure to venture out and discover your own favourites that will bring you back to Maenayron time and time again…

 1176 @ Cardigan Castle

Named after the year that Lord Rhys hosted Wales’ first Eisteddfod, the 70-seat restaurant is surrounded by beautiful grounds and 900 years of history. With a contemporary slate and floor-to-ceiling glass design and panoramic views over the River Teifi, this restaurant is certainly fit for a Prince. During the warmer months, you can also eat alfresco on the sun terrace, capturing prime views looking out over the river.

Bara Menyn Bakehouse

Bara Menyn – an artisan bakehouse and cafe under one roof – is based in one of Cardigan’s historic Custom House buildings. They bake slow-fermentation, organic sourdough 6 days a week, as well as serving up a range of locally sourced breakfasts and lunches, home-made cakes and specialty coffee.

 Food For Thought

A local business on Cardigan high street, Food For Thought has a frequently expanding menu to suit many dietary requirements. The varied menu has something for everyone, and a home cooked specials board that changes daily.  A lovely coffee shop, with friendly staff and a lively atmosphere, in the centre of Cardigan.

Caws Cenarth Cheese

Caws Cenarth is the oldest established producer of Welsh Farmhouse Caerffili. As well as the plain Caerffili, Caws Cenarth also produces other varieties, Garlic and Herb Caerffili and Smoked Caerffili. More recently, Carwyn has developed new cheeses, including the Brie-like Perl Wen, a creamy blue, Perl Las, and Golden Cenarth, a washed-rind cheese with a powerful flower – and winner of the Supreme Champion accolade at the British Cheese Awards 2010.

Dà Mhìle Distillery

Dà Mhìle Distillery is an award-winning farmhouse distillery based in LLandysull.  They offer distillery tours if you book in advance,  showing you all parts of the process from brewing, through to distilling, bottling, labelling and the warehouse where they age the whisky in an array of rare casks – all under the same roof. Once you’ve been through the whole production process, you’ll be guided upstairs to the tasting gallery to sample their award winning spirits and liqueurs.
